Taiwanese celebrity Vivian Hsu celebrated her 50th birthday on March 19. Her birthday wish? More time.

The singer and actress, who received treatment for thyroid cancer in 2024, shared photos of her special birthday celebration with friends and her nine-year-old son in Taipei on Instagram on March 20.

She expressed: “There are still many items left on my life’s checklist. If wishes can be granted, I hope for peace, safety, and health. I wish to be given more time, and that we all will continuously hold onto our inner child, enabling us to be brave and fearless.”

Hsu disclosed in November 2024 that she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer earlier that year during a routine health examination and had undergone surgery to address the issue. Following the operation, she was unable to sing for two to three months, but mentioned that she felt well after her recovery.

The star of movies like Little Big Women (2020) and Mama Boy (2022) shared images from her celebration, which included a meal with her son and friends in Taipei, featuring notable friends such as actress-producer Ruby Lin and singers Princess Ai and Julia Peng.

She also went to Taipei Children’s Amusement Park, where registered residents of Taipei can enter for free on Wednesdays. Upon entering the park without purchasing a ticket, she described it as a “small, pleasant surprise.”

The single mother, who ended her marriage with Singapore-based businessman Sean Lee in 2023, mentioned that her son dedicated 1½ hours to creating a pop-up birthday card featuring a drawing of a tiered cake for her. He also crafted a candle that served as her birthday cake candle.

Hsu travels back and forth between Taiwan for her job and resides in Singapore with her only child.

She expressed: “25+25 years – there are countless individuals to express gratitude to, and words fall short. As always, I am committed to living and working earnestly. The ordinary is the most romantic.”
